Vampire: Elder Kindred Network
What is it?
Vampire: Elder Kindred Network is a players' union formed initially by Robert Goudie, quickly being supported by many other people.
For a long time, the DCI (who sanction tournaments for Wizards of the Coast games) and Wizards of the Coast themselves were very reluctant to put any backing behind V:TES because they didn't see it as a going concern. To combat this, many players, with Robert Goudie at the head, set about organising themselves. The "Crusade" series of tournaments (named after the Sabbat political action) were held world-wide around Halloween 1997. This surge of action prompted Wizards of the Coast to begin looking at the game again and the DCI began sponsoring tournaments again. This was great news for people organising tournaments, since they could claim some prize support from them - normally a dozen boosters, or something similar.
Vampire: Elder Kindred Network were also working with the DCI to organise a rating system for players, similar, in principle to that used for rating players. After much discussion, it appears that V:EKN will be running this itself.
Regional Princes
Vampire: Elder Kindred Network has worked to establish a network of Princes around the world. Some represent thriving gaming groups, others try to organise sporadic events or provide help and information for anyone who might pass there way. Whatever they do, you should be able to get help and assistance from them.
In Britain, we have two Princes. Even though we don't have any specifically for Scotland and Wales, both Princes are more than happy to help wherever they can. They are:
- James McClellan, james.mcclellan@port.ac.uk
Prince of Wessex (specifically Portsmouth). He can be found at the regular tournaments in Portsmouth.
- Mike Nudd, mike@darkness.org.uk
Mike is the Prince of London (he may wish to consult Queen Anne about that one, though), but is found sometimes at Portsmouth tournaments too.
- James Coupe vekn@obeah.demon.co.uk
Prince of Mercia (specifically Birmingham). He can be found at tournaments in Portsmouth, occasionally in Cardiff and GenConUK. He would try and get tournaments going in the Midlands, but has been met by resounding apathy.
Malkavian Newsletters
V:EKN, using the rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad newsgroup, provides "newsletters" for some of the major clans. The Malkavian ones probably aren't the best, but I have to like them, because I write them. Simply as an ego trip, they're archived below:
