Tournament Report: Portsmouth 27th March 1999

Written by James McClellan

Due to the footie [England 3: Poland less than 3], last night of the Dracula
ballet, Spring weddings, end of term and [possibly] peoples' dislike of
sealed deck formats we were not quorate for the Saturday event at Second
Byte, but 5 of us still got together for a friendly. It was kind of a weird
game, which ended with a time-out .... Alex Murphy won with 1.5 VPs, Peter
Prince was Second with 1, and Garry Scarlett and I hung on to the bitter end
for 0.5 each ... John Keech got 0. I had TERRIBLE hand jam, for the first
time in a sealed deck game, but still got enough pool gain and combat going
that I wasn't going to be ousted any time soon, and the permanents were
piling up in a heartening manner. It would have been interesting to play on,
but then I had to split to go to Northern Ballet's Dracula - the last night
at Sadler's Wells. Ladies and Gentlemen, you HAVE to see this show. It is
STUNNING. I believe that David Tatu's Atlanta Ballet company may be bringing
it to the States, and if so you should all contribute to his pay-packet and
your own quality of life by going along! And take your kids, if any ..
Michael the Childe of Legbiter [aged 10] LOVED it, and very sweetly kept his
daddy informed of who exactly was who among the dancers.
